Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is a surgical technique in which a small camera is inserted through tiny incisions in the abdomen. Carbon dioxide gas is blown into the abdomen to lift the abdominal wall and separate it from the underlying organs so that surgical instruments can be inserted without any risk. This allows the veterinarian to see inside the abdomen without having to make a large incision in the abdominal wall, as with traditional surgery.

What are the benefits of laparoscopy?

Because it’s non-invasive, patients often experience less pain following laparoscopy and recovery is shorter. The risk of complications with scars, as well as bleeding and the risk of infection are also greatly reduced. In addition, the scars are very small, which looks better.

Can all abdominal surgical interventions be performed laparoscopically?

Unfortunately, there are many factors to consider, such as the nature of the health problem, the animal’s general condition and their size, etc. Our veterinary team considers all of these elements before deciding whether or not to use laparoscopy.
Here are some operations that can be performed with this technique:

  • Liver biopsy
  • Kidney stone removal
  • Treatment of paraprostatic cysts
